This Fall, Mentor A Child for Course Credit
Earn three credit hours for mentoring an elementary school child as part of a service learning course at the U of A. The instructor for this course is Tim Cavell, professor of psychological science. He is currently recruiting undergraduate students to be Lunch Buddy mentors.
Lunch Buddy mentors are matched with an elementary school student identified as having difficulties with peers. Mentors visit twice a week and sit with their mentee at the school lunch table. Mentors earn three hours of course credit for being a consistent mentor and for completing a brief end-of-term paper. This is a fun way to gain valuable experience in working with children.
Mentors must participate in a screening interview and a brief training and agree to a criminal background check. Mentors must also have reliable transportation and a two-hour block twice/week during the school lunch period (roughly between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.).
U of A students from any college and any classification (freshmen to senior) are eligible. For more information, please contact Melissa Brown at mlb056@uark.edu.
