NPHC presents Meet the Greeks.

Please join the National Pan-Hellenic Council at their annual Meet the Greeks event tonight to explore fraternity & sorority life membership. It will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Unity House at 1002 Maple St., across from the U of A School of Law.

All students are asked to stay for the duration of the program. Students are highly encouraged to dress business causal.

Meet the Greeks is an opportunity for students who are unsure about the process of joining one of the NPHC organizations. This event serves as an excellent opportunity to ask questions and obtain more information regarding the organization’s history, how to join, academic requirements and financial obligations. The Meet the Greeks is also an event where students may ask various questions to the NPHC organization representatives without the fear of showing a preference for one organization over another.

"It is important that each interested student take the time to learn about each organization's history, aims and national programs before joining any NPHC fraternity or sorority to fully appreciate and understand the depth of African American Greek Letter organizations," said Lashae Hall, NPHC president. "This will be an opportunity for students to network with student leaders on campus."

The following organizations make up the "Divine Nine":

  • Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., founded at Cornell University in 1906

  • Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., founded at Howard University in 1908

  • Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., founded at Indiana University in 1911

  • Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., founded at Howard University in 1911

  • Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., founded at Howard University in 1913

  • Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., founded at Howard University in 1914

  • Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., founded at Howard University in 1920

  • Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc., founded at Butler University in 1922*

  • Iota Phi Theta Fraternity Inc., founded at Morgan State University in 1967*

*Currently, these organizations are not on the U of A campus.
