University Recreation is offering small group training classes for the Fall 2022 semester. Small group training offers a unique opportunity to explore a new dimension of fitness by blending the camaraderie of group fitness with the individualized attention of a certified personal trainer. Small group training is a great option for those seeking to be a part of a motivating class working towards achieving their fitness goals.

Classes are offered at various times throughout the day and take place in UREC Train, a private training space for clients located on the first floor of the HPER building. Each class meets twice a week for six weeks, Sept. 6 to Oct. 13 and Oct. 24 to Dec. 8. The cost for students to participate in the entire six-week session is $43; for all other membership types the cost will is $57. Register for small group training in the UREC main office located in HPER 225 or register online via the member portal.  Registration closes at 11:59 p.m., Monday, Sept. 5.

"I never thought I'd participate in something like small group training until a co-worker invited me to sign up for an open spot. Three years later, I am still signing up each semester and look forward to each class," said Don Nix, a small group training participant and UARK staff member. "The class environment is a blend of relaxed and approachable while also providing some accountability for staying active and challenging myself. It's an important part of my work week, and I always feel energized after class. I highly recommend trying it out."

Additionally, UREC is offering a prep course for the ACE Personal Training certification exam this semester. The ACE Personal Training prep course is a great first step for anyone interested in becoming a personal trainer. This 10-week course provides curriculum and material consisting of presentations, lectures and interactive group activities to help prepare you for the ACE Personal Trainer Certification exam. This course includes the ACE Sixth Edition Personal Trainer Manual.

This prep course is open to students and UREC members. It will be held on Tuesdays at 3:30-5:30 p.m. from Sept. 13 to Nov. 15. The cost of this course is $50 for students or $75 for UREC members. Register online via the member portal. This prep course does not certify individuals as personal trainers or guarantee employment with UREC.
