Takama Statton-Brooks to Serve as Interim Assistant Vice Chancellor for University Housing

Takama Statton-Brooks is now serving as interim assistant vice chancellor for University Housing.  

In this role, she directs the activities of staff who oversee around 7,000 students who live in residence halls on campus and in select neighboring apartment complexes. 

She took on this role in mid-July after Florence "Flo" Johnson retired this summer. Johnson served as University Housing's leader since 2011. 

Statton-Brooks has spent most of her career advocating for students and operationalizing policies, services and programs to support students. With almost 20 years of experience in higher education, she is passionate about creating intentional learning strategies for students.  

"I am honored to take on the role of interim assistant vice chancellor for University Housing. This opportunity will allow me to continue to serve students at the highest level and to provide direction and leadership to this great department," she said.  

"I want to thank Jeremy Battjes, associate vice chancellor for finance and administration for student affairs, for the confidence in my ability to serve in this capacity. I am thrilled to continue working with a talented group of directors within University Housing who are experts in their respective fields." 

Statton-Brooks began her tenure at the U of A as the assistant director for residence education and was promoted to director for residence education in 2011. Her focus has been on creating learning strategies and developing social and leadership opportunities that go beyond the classroom, into the residential setting.  

During her time at the U of A, she has grown the initiatives between academic units and the residence halls. As the director for residence education, her work encompassed a broad range of practical experience such as leadership and organizational development, crisis management, student development and student advocacy.  

She is excited to expand her reach in serving the department and the Division of Student Affairs.
