Society of Professional Journalists RSO Seeks Students for NWA Gridiron Roles

The student chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists is recruiting students who are journalism and advertising-PR majors to perform in the live sketch-comedy Gridiron Show. Auditions will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, at Giffels Auditorium in Old Main.
The show pokes fun at state, local and national politics as well as cultural trends with comedy sketches. The show will be performed in Fayetteville for the first time since the 1980s.
"We were lucky enough to book the theatre at Butterfield Trail Village," said Gina Shelton, the chapter adviser. "It has seating for 250, a large parking area and is home to many of the people who have supported the Gridiron Show through the seasons. We're really looking forward to performing at Butterfield."
The show is sponsored by the student chapter and the regional professional chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists to provide scholarships for students in the School of Journalism and Strategic Media at the University of Arkansas. The show includes students, faculty and alumni of the school as well as professional journalists who volunteer their time to entertain.
The show will be performed Friday and Saturday, Nov. 4-5, with a performance on Friday restricted to Butterfield Trail Village residents and a Saturday show open to the general public. Tickets will go on sale Oct. 1 on the NWA Gridiron site.
"It's a great way for students to support fellow students and have fun at the same time," said Charlie Alison, assistant director. "Rehearsals are on campus, so it's also easy for students to participate. We use the word 'audition' very loosely. If a student wants to be in the show, they are in the show. And there has been no dearth of things to make fun of this past year, but now we need actors and singers to bring the comedy to life."
