U of A, LSU Colleges of Agriculture Create 'Golden Boot Giving Challenge' for Football Game Week

In agriculture, for many, boots are not just a fashion accessory, but necessary.

The colleges of agriculture at the U of A and Louisiana State University are mirroring the "Battle for the Golden Boot" football game between the Razorbacks and Tigers with a philanthropic challenge.

Arkansas' Dale Bumpers of College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences and LSU's College of Agriculture have created the "Golden Boot Giving Challenge" crowdfunding challenge for the week of the game (Nov. 5-12).

The challenge is based on the number of donors, alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends who contribute to their respective college. All contributions to Bumpers College are going to its student assistance fund.

"This will be a fun way for both colleges to get engaged throughout the week leading up to the game," said Jean-Francois Meullenet, interim dean. "We hope to have many supporters involved, but we especially want to make it easy for current students and young alums to get involved and support the college. Anyone can contribute any amount, and it will count toward the challenge. More importantly, any funds we raise will go to our student assistance fund, which is what we use to help support students who are facing difficulties and challenges, and need help to remain enrolled. We're looking forward to participating in the challenge and thank everyone for any support."

The donation period is Saturday (Nov. 5) through Saturday (Nov. 12). The winning college is determined by which one receives the most number of gifts (not by dollar amount). Any amount donated counts for the college, and contributors are counted just once.

The game is Saturday at 11 a.m. in Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville.
