The Department of Industrial Engineering was well represented at the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences annual meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana.

INFORMS meetings and conferences provide the ultimate learning and networking events for operations research and analytics professionals and students — opportunities to exchange information, ideas and perspectives with colleagues from around the world.

Eksioglu's article, "Optimal Governmental Incentives for Biomass Cofiring to Reduce Emissions in the Short-Term," was published in IISE Transactions and co-authored with Amin Khademi, Department of Industrial Engineering at Clemson University.

The Quality Statistics and Reliability section of INFORMS announces the Best Student Paper Award to recognize excellence among its student members.

portrait of Xinchao LiuDoctoral student Xinchao Liu was selected as a finalist of the Best Paper Competition of the Quality, Statistics and Reliability section. Xinchao is advised by assistant professor Xiao Liu. The co-authors of the paper are Tulin Kaman, Department of Mathematical Sciences at the U of A; Guang Lin, Department of Mathematics at Purdue University; and Liu.

Four finalists for the Best Student Paper Award are selected to make presentations at the INFORMS annual meeting. The winner is announced at the Quality Statistics and Reliability business meeting later at the conference. All finalists receive an award certificate and three years' free membership.

In addition to these recognitions, the INFORMS Student Chapter at the U of A received the Cum Laude Award for its chapter engagement over the past year. This was the group's second consecutive year to receive this award.

About the Department of Industrial Engineering: The Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Arkansas was founded in 1950, led by department head John L. Imhoff who believed deeply in the global impact of industrial engineering. Today, the department averages over 200 undergraduate students and over 40 doctoral and master's students. In addition, the department has three online master's degrees: the Master of Science in Operations Management, Master of Science in Engineering Management and Master of Science in Operations Analytics.
