Learn About Sustainability and Climate Change with Libraries Multimedia Materials

For the month of January, the Mullins Library Multimedia Department has compiled a list of streaming videos and episodes available to all students, staff and faculty that pertain to sustainability and climate change. Physical items are also on display in the Multimedia Department, which is now located in Mullins Library room 463.

2040 is an innovative feature documentary that looks to the future but is vitally important now. Award-winning director Damon Gameau embarks on a journey to explore what the future would look like by the year 2040 if we simply embraced the best solutions already available to us to improve our planet and shifted them into the mainstream. 

Kiss the Ground  is a documentary about a revolutionary group of activists, scientists, farmers and politicians that band together in a global movement of "Regenerative Agriculture" that could balance our climate, replenish our vast water supplies and feed the world.  

In 2012, Nature published a study predicting that humankind could disappear between 2040 and 2100. It also said that this could be avoided by drastically changing our way of life and taking appropriate measures. French actress and director Mélanie Laurent (Inglourious Basterds), along with friend and activist Cyril Dion and their crew, traveled the world in search of solutions that can help save the next generations. The result is Tomorrow, an inspiring documentary that presents concrete solutions implemented throughout the world by hundreds of communities.

Examining the increasing importance of sustainability in architectural design, Sustainable Architecture  tours a variety of sustainable structures. It explores the Currents, which is a 10-story residential tower and home to the Great Canadian Theatre Company. 

Follow Leonardo DiCaprio in Before the Flood as he travels around the globe to witness first-hand the devastating effects of climate change and what can be done to solve the climate crisis.

A decade after An Inconvenient Truth brought the climate crisis into the heart of popular culture, An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power shows just how close we are to a real energy revolution.

A huge number of plastic bags and bottles was swept away by the flood of the river Tisza, flowing through Ukraine, Romania, Hungary and Serbia. Hungarian idealists launched the Plastic Cup, a long-distance race on the river with boats made of the collected plastic garbage.

Global Footprints: Transportation, Greener Cars, Biodiesel & Designing Cities Less Dependent on Fossil Fuels explores the automotive industry's move towards greener cars and the need for cities to balance cycling, public transport and cars within their overall infrastructure.

In the documentary Time to Choose, Academy Award winning documentary filmmaker Charles Ferguson turns his lens to address worldwide climate change challenges and solutions. 

Going Green Episodes 

Episode 1 — Meet the everyday heroes spearheading change in their communities. Going Green features five individuals making a difference in the causes they believe in.

Episode 2 — Travel to Varanasi as the city takes on different hues during one of India's most colorful festivals, Holi. Explore the city's tradition in handmade textiles and journey along the sacred Ganges River, a source of spiritual purification for devout Hindus. 

Episode 3 — Planet Earth is a wonder to behold, beautiful, fascinating, life-sustaining — but also, increasingly, under threat. All over the globe, people are innovating sustainable solutions to help our world.

Episode 4 — Meet "inspired environmentalists" to see how their bold, inventive ideas are improving lives through architecture, agriculture and the strengthening of fragile ecosystems.
