Speech and Debate Hosts Successful Tournament

The U of A's Speech and Debate Society hosted the annual Southern Forensics Championship Tournament, a rotating event between the states of Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas, which serves as a state championship tournament. Thirty schools from 10 different states with a combined total of over 300 individuals were in attendance for the event, which took place across campus from Friday to Sunday, Jan. 27-29. 

The students of the U of A Speech and Debate Team, coached by Hannah Morris and Jacob Holland, won a combined total of 27 awards, including being ranked the top overall Arkansas Champion School for the entire tournament. Students Hadley Adkison, Andrew Brothers, Maddie Fritz, Max Green, Luke Hubbard and Jaci Sabatini were each labeled Arkansas champions in their respective divisions of competition. 

Included, coach Hannah Morris was awarded with the Southern Forensics Championship Tournament Coach of the Year award, an honor voted upon by all students in attendance of the tournament. 

The team would like to thank Facilities Management, Information Technology Services, Union Events, Associated Student Government, Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, Fulbright College Advising Center and Leflar Law Center for making this event possible.
