The U of A IT Security team has seen a recent uptick in phishing attacks targeting members of our campus community. The latest attacks have requested that recipients copy and paste a link into their browser, then fill out a form with personal information, and it generates counterfeit multi-factor authentication codes in an attempt to steal passwords.

As a result of these scams, here are some cybersecurity reminders for students, faculty and staff to help protect personal and university data.

Cybersecurity Reminders:

  • The university will never send an email asking you to put your username and password into a form.
  • Legitimate companies should not ask you to enter your university username and password on a form or in an email.
  • Verify any email address that asks for your username and password.
  • Call the associated professor or the IT helpdesk (479-575-2901) to verify any email from outside the university.

Common Phishing Attempts:

  • You will lose access to your account
  • Unsolicited job offers
  • You must confirm personal information or pay an invoice
  • You are eligible for a coupon or gift card

If you receive a suspicious email, please report it in Outlook. If you provided personal information or entered your login information on a malicious site due to phishing attacks, please change your U of A password and other account passwords immediately.
