High Schoolers Experience Chemistry in German During Annual STEM Immersion Event

On Saturday, Feb. 12, the U of A hosted the 4th annual German STEM Day. In this immersion program, high school students in advanced German classes traveled to the U of A to conduct chemistry experiments in German in the lab of Dr. Susanne Striegler. After a presentation about international careers over lunch, they participated in a German language scavenger hunt. 

Fayetteville High students Sophia Condray, Matthew McCoy, Laura Micek, Madelyne Micek, Crawford Murphy, Roman Taylor and Ezra Van Horn attended with their German teacher, James Russell. Mountain Home High School students Arith Barnes, Ivan Bondarenko, Roxie Botts, Jace Godfrey and Dallin Stephens attended with their German teacher, Chris Francis.

The event was conducted by U of A students and staff: Lidia Belete, Issac Caswell, Dr. Kathleen Condray, Dr. Hashini Herath, Luke Kruse, Ellen McPherson and Dr. Susanne Striegler. Funding was generously provided by the National Science Foundation under award CHE-1854304, the Department of Chemistry and the German Section of the Department of World Languages.
