Engineering Professor and Recent Alumnus Recognized for Research
William Caballero and Colin Small
William Caballero, adjunct professor in the Master of Science in Operations Management and Engineering Management programs, was recently recognized as a finalist for the Clemen-Kleinmuntz Decision Analysis Best Paper Award from the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS). The award is given to researchers who publish papers in the Decision Analysis Journal, a publication of INFORMS.
Caballero is new to the U of A. He will begin instruction this summer. He received his doctoral degree in operations research from the Air Force Institute of Technology and is serving in the United States Air Force in addition to his duties for the U of A.
His paper titled, "Modeling Ethical and Operational Preferences in Automated Driving Systems," with co-authors Roi Naviero and David Rios, is available for review for a short time here.
Also recognized as a finalist was recent alumnus Colin Small. He and co-author Eric Bickel were recognized for their paper titled, "Model Complexity and Accuracy: A COVID-19 Case Study." The paper is also available at the link above.
Small is a graduate of the Department of Industrial Engineering, receiving his bachelor's degree in Spring 2016 and master's degree in Spring 2019. He is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Texas.
