The Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology will host Justin Schmidt for a virtual seminar in PTSC 009 as part of the Spring 2023 Seminar Series. The seminar is scheduled to take place from 3:30-5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28. A social period will precede the seminar at 3:15 p.m., with light snacks and drinks just outside the lecture hall.

What is "intellectual property"? What are the steps through which scientific discoveries make their way from the laboratory to the "real world," via commercialization? How does the way in which scientists collect and present their data influence the potential of that data to be commercialized? How can commercialization of your research help (or hinder?) you professionally? What are some commercialization success stories at our land-grant institution? These are just some of the topics that will be covered by the Technology Commercialization Office in this professional development session. Faculty with experience with the patent process will also be on hand to answer questions about their experiences. It is important for students and faculty to understand the commercialization process because it fundamentally shapes the ways in which science impacts society.
