The School of Art in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences is pleased to welcome artist and the Roy Lichtenstein Chair of Studio Art at the Ohio State University Carmen Winant to the Visiting Lecture Series. Winant will present her lecture at 5:30 p.m. today, Thursday, March 9, on Zoom

Winant's work utilizes installation and collage strategies to examine feminist modes of survival and revolt.

"What excites me most about Carmen Winant's visit is her use of photography, printmaking, installation and collage strategies to explore historical and contemporary cultural issues at-large," said Aaron Turner, assistant professor of art in photography in the School of Art. "I'm very excited for students to learn more about the concepts and aesthetics that permeate her work but also hopefully find a little bit of themselves in the work, and as always, that in some ways, it opens the field up a little bit more for them by seeing all the ways in which an artist can make work an the motivations behind it."

Winant's recent projects have been shown at the Museum of Modern Art, Sculpture Center, Wexner Center of the Arts, the Cleveland Museum of Art, The Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo and as part of the CONTACT Photography Festival, which mounted 26 of her billboards across Canada. Forthcoming projects will take place at The Print Center in Philadelphia, ICA Boston and Minneapolis Institute of Art.

Winant's recent artist's books include My Birth, Notes on Fundamental Joy and Instructional Photography: Learning How To Live Now with forthcoming books Arrangements and A Brand New End: Survival and Its Pictures.

She is a 2019 Guggenheim Fellow in photography, a 2020 FCA Artist Honoree and a 2021 American Academy of Arts and Letters award recipient. She is a mother to her two sons, Carlo and Rafa, shared with her partner, Luke Stettner.

All are invited to hear from Winant at 5:30 p.m. today, March 9, on Zoom
