Engineering's April JEDI Hour to Feature Talk on Inclusion of Neurodiverse Learners
The College of Engineering Office of Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion's April JEDI Hour will feature Connie Syharat, project manager and research assistant in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Connecticut, on the topic "Transferring Engineering Education: Promoting Inclusion of Neurodiverse Learners."
Syharat will provide an overview of neurodiversity and being neurodivergent. In addition, she will discuss enhancing the creativity of the engineering workforce. The session will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 4. Registration is not necessary, and all are welcome.
Syharat is the project manager of INCLUDE, a five-year National Science Foundation Revolutionizing Engineering Departments project aimed at transforming engineering education, promoting the inclusion of neurodiverse learners and enhancing the creativity of the engineering workforce.
She also conducts qualitative research as part of an NSF Innovations in Graduate Education project to increase understanding of the experiences of neurodiverse graduate students in STEM fields. She is pursuing a doctoral degree in curriculum and instruction at the University of Connecticut's Neag School of Education.
