'Strategic Philanthropy: A New Course About Giving' Lecture Thursday
Larissa Rocha de Souza Almeida

Professorss Rogelio Garcia Contreras and Daniel Levine will present a lecture on "Strategic Philanthropy: A New Course About Giving" from 5:30-6:30 p.m. March 30, 2023, in GEAR 258.

Contreras and Levine will present a brief history of philanthropic activities around the world and in the United States and share benchmarks for modern philanthropy. They will outline how the concept of "Strategic Philanthropy" can engage students as agents of impact in our community in a practical way and show how philanthropy can be a vehicle for a sustainable future.

They will describe the new course's purpose, which is for students to assess the impact of local non-profit organizations, and to determine which ones could receive up to $50,000 of funding provided by the Philanthropy Lab.

The lecture will be held in Gearhart Hall, room 258, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. The lecture will be open to the U of A community.

Additionally, the Department of World Languages, Literatures & Cultures is offering "Strategic Philanthropy" (HUMN 425V-002 or SEVI 4103-001) as a fall course held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30-10:45 a.m., taught by professors Levine and Contreras.
