Latin American & Latino Studies Graduate Student Research Award

The Latin American and Latino Studies Program at the U of A is funding three awards up to $1,000 each to fund research in Latin America or research related to Latina/o studies and/or conference travel. The student will need to provide an abstract of research goals and, in the case of a conference, detail their proposed presentation and the significance of the conference to their research/professionalization (and upon return submit a one-page write-up concerning their achievements).

The application process is open to all full-time graduate students and aims to enhance diversity in graduate professionalization. Preference will be given to underrepresented communities such as first-generation students, members of ethnic minority groups, students with a documented disability and students with demonstrated financial need. 

Eligibility

The following criteria will be considered by the selection committee for the Latin American and Latino Studies Program:

  • Graduate student only (M.A. or Ph.D.)
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 or better
  • In state or out of state
  • Summer or semester study
  • One-page proposal justifying how the graduate student research award will enrich academic professionalization
  • An itemized budget
  • One letter of recommendation from a faculty adviser

Award Deadline

To be considered, candidates must submit a completed application by April 7 and spend funds by Dec. 31. Please submit your application to Steven Rosales, chair of the LALS awards committee, at rosales@uark.edu.

Award Amount

Three awards up to $1,000 each will be awarded. An itemized budget is mandatory, and examples of allowable expenses include, but are not limited to, airfare, hotel costs, technical equipment or books, and conference registration fees.
