Free Naloxone Training for Faculty, Staff and Students Wednesday
Pat Walker Health Center's Substance Education, Assessment and Recovery program is hosting a naloxone training taught by Arkansas' Department of Human Services from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, in rooms 1116-1117 of the Pat Walker Health Center. U of A faculty, staff and students are invited to attend. No RSVP is necessary.
The DHS representative will provide trainees with a basic understanding of the opioid epidemic, the signs of an opioid overdose and how to administer naloxone.
The prevention section of the Division of Aging, Adult, & Behavioral Health Sciences for Arkansas' DHS funds substance abuse prevention within the state of Arkansas. They work to build "coordinated prevention efforts through collaboration with state agencies, community organizations and special populations," according to the Arkansas DHS website. These prevention efforts offer "multiple strategies, provide multiple points of access and allow for coordination to expand citizen participation... as a most promising approach to preventing alcohol and other drug problems..."
About the Substance Education, Assessment & Recovery program: The SEAR program provides direct individual and group interventions to university students with alcohol, cannabis and other substance-related concerns. SEAR offers a variety of research-based prevention, early intervention and recovery support services and programs. SEAR frequently partners with campus groups to promote a learning environment that supports healthy behavior choices, as well as raise awareness about the risks associated with alcohol abuse and illicit drug use.
