Aloia Wins Top Paper at SSCA and Named Outstanding Faculty Mentor

Associate professor Lindsey Aloia recently received the Top Paper Award from the Interpersonal Communication Division at the Southern States Communication Association's 93rd annual convention for her paper titled "Antecedents and Consequences of Interpersonal Electronic Surveillence in Romantic Relationships." 

Aloia is director of the Honors Studies Program for Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences and an associate professor in the Department of Communication.

Aloia's research focuses on elucidating the causes and consequences of verbal aggression in interpersonal associations. Specifically, Aloia studies how qualities of interpersonal interactions, as well as individuals, shape the use of and reactions to verbally aggressive experiences. Aloia's work considers consequential communication and illuminates the personal, relational and health implications of verbal aggression.

Aloia has also been recognized with the Outstanding Faculty Mentor Award from the Office for Faculty Affairs. This award recognizes Aloia's commitment to her mentees; building excellence in teaching, research and service; as well as maintaining a healthy balance of work and home life. Aloia facilitates faculty career advancement and cultivates belonging through her mentorship. Aloia also assist mentees in building their professional networks and creating avenues for mentee recognition.
