The Pat Walker Health Center on Garland Avenue.

As summer approaches, the Pat Walker Health Center would like to remind the U of A community that it's important to take care of yourself. Our community can rest assured that the health center has several resources available to support your overall health and wellness!

The Pat Walker Health Center is the U of A's exclusive medical, mental health and wellness facility for faculty, staff and students. The health center is an AAAHC-accredited institution, providing comprehensive, compassionate and evidence-based medical and mental health care and substance use and support services.

As a reminder to all faculty, staff and students at the U of A, the Pat Walker Health Center is open all summer (excluding university holidays). The health center's hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Fridays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Reminders for Faculty and Staff

Faculty and staff can be seen at the PWHC's Primary Care Clinic, GYN (Women's) Clinic, Allergy, Immunization & Travel Clinic and for primary care psychiatry services. All these services can be billed to insurance, and UMR insurance is in network with all the providers in the health center. PWHC is also part of the SmartCare network, which means a lower co-pay for faculty and staff with UMR insurance.

The medical providers at the PWHC can be a faculty or staff member's primary care provider (PCP), or faculty and staff are also welcome to visit the providers as needed. Board-certified physicians and nurse practitioners are available to treat both acute and chronic illnesses/injuries in the Primary Care Clinic, provide comprehensive and personalized health care in the GYN (Women's) Clinic and offer allergy shots, required immunizations, TB testing and other screenings in the Allergy, Immunization & Travel Clinic. To make an appointment at one of the medical clinics, go to myhealth.uark.edu or call 479-575-4451, option 1.

Reminders for Students

Students enrolled in summer classes or who will be in Northwest Arkansas are encouraged to use the PWHC for medical, mental health and substance use and support services. Students can designate a medical clinic provider as their primary care provider, or students are also welcome to visit the providers as needed. The medical clinics bill with insurance, but also offer self-pay as needed.

The PWHC's Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) has professionally licensed mental health clinicians on site for short-term individual counseling, group counseling, workshops, mental health emergency services, psychiatry and case management. Most services offered through CAPS are covered by the student health and wellness fee, except psychiatry services, which are billed with insurance or can be self-paid. To make an appointment with CAPS, call 479-575-5276.

The PWHC's Substance Education, Assessment & Recovery program provides direct individual and group interventions to university students with alcohol, cannabis and other substance-related concerns. SEAR offers a variety of research-based prevention, early intervention and recovery support services and programs. Alcohol and drug assessments are performed by an Arkansas licensed professional mental health practitioner. To make an appointment with the SEAR program coordinator, email sear@uark.edu or call 479-575-2500.
