Tau Beta Pi Chooses Alan Mantooth for Distinguished Alumnus Award
Alan Mantooth, distinguished professor for the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department, has been named a recipient of the 2023 Tau Beta Pi Distinguished Alumnus Award.
Tau Beta Pi is the premier Engineering Honor Society; it honors engineering across all disciplines. Tau Beta Pi is also the oldest engineering honor society in the U.S. and the second-oldest collegiate honor society.
Michael Brown, the director of finance and operations for Tau Beta Pi, said, "The purpose of this award is to recognize alumni who have demonstrated outstanding adherence to the ideals of Tau Beta Pi and fostering a spirit of liberal culture in our society on the local, national and international scales."
Mantooth was surprised he was selected for the award. He said, "I never thought I would be selected. Knowing the illustrious Tau Beta Pi alumni, I was humbled. I'm not sure there was a specific contribution or achievement. Perhaps it is just a career of mentoring, steady research funding and accomplishments that have added up, service to the profession as president of the IEEE Power Electronics Society, and service to Tau Beta Pi as a chapter adviser while doing all of these things."
Brown said, "We are extremely proud of you (Dr. Mantooth) and your accomplishments, and I look forward to meeting you."
The award will be presented at the 2023 Tau Beta Pi Convention in Atlanta, Georgia, from Oct. 12 to 14.
