U of A to Host Inside Out Project

You are invited to participate in the U of A’s activation of the Inside Out Project from 4-5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15. 

The Inside Out Project stems from a TED Talk French artist JR did in 2012. This participatory platform helps individuals and communities to make a statement by displaying large-scale black and white portraits in public spaces. Through their “Actions,” communities around the world have sparked collaborations and conversations. More than 500,000 people from 152 countries and territories have participated to date. 

Students, faculty and staff are welcome and encouraged to participate in the U of A’s “Action,” titled Razorbacks Facing Forward. Those interested can find the photobooth on the Union Mall, where they can have their photo taken to become part of JR’s art activation. Since there is a limit to the number of photos that can be a part of the action, it will be first come, first serve. The resulting activation will be displayed outside Old Main from Sept. 22 through Oct. 5. The Inside Out Project will also be appearing during the FORMAT festival in Bentonville Sept. 22-24. 

The event is being hosted by the Multicultural Center and Office of Industry and Community Engagement. 

Students also have the option of submitting photos remotely. They will need to submit a waiver online, which can be found on the Inside Out Project’s FAQ page, and email their photo to Donna Graham at dkgraha@uark.edu. They must also follow the guidelines below when taking their photo: 

• Make expressive faces! 
• No sunglasses 
• Only one person per portrait 
• No animals 
• No commercial branding, watermarks or logos 
• Images must be JPG or TIFF 
• Images must be at least 1MB
