Kumar Vijay Mishra

The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science will present Kumar Vijay Mishra, senior fellow at the United States Army Research Laboratory. His talk will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 13 in J.B. Hunt Center room 239.

Mishra will speak on deep learning from millimeter-wave and terahertz beamforming applications. This talk will teach audiences about applying deep learning to various aspects of hybrid beamforming including channel estimation, antenna selection, wideband beamforming and spatial modulation. Audiences will also be able to examine these concepts in the context of joint radar-communications architectures.

The millimeter-wave technology used for better communication and radar systems has a specific way of directing signals. This helps save cost, power and space. People are now considering using terahertz, a higher frequency, for short-range communication and radar. This requires a technology called ultra massive MIMO to work well, but making these tools is considerably difficult. The typical solution would be performing complicated mathematics, but that has proven to be slow and imperfect. To avoid these complications, a new approach was introduced using deep learning to provide greater performance while designing a hybrid beamformer.

Those who would like to meet Mishra in person should send their Sept. 13 availability to Xiaoqing Song by Sept. 8. If you would like to join him for breakfast, lunch or dinner, please indicate that in the email.

For additional information, please contact Xiaoqing Song at songx@uark.edu.
