The French Film Series, hosted by Maria Comsa, teaching assistant professor of French, has returned this fall with several more French films that are currently being studied in the French Cinema class (FREN 4113). The series kicked off on Monday, Aug. 28, with a screening of Amélie (2001).

Screenings run from 5-7 p.m. in the World Languages & Digital Humanities Studio in the J.B. Hunt Center for Excellence, room 207, with a discussion to follow. Students are encouraged to speak on their own insights of the films shown and to discuss depictions of French culture and cinematic techniques that speak to the unique identity of French cinema.

The series will continue throughout the semester with the films listed below, shown on the corresponding screening dates:

  • Monday, Sept. 18, 5 p.m. – La Règle du jeu
  • Monday, Oct. 9, 5 p.m. – Cléo de 5 à 7
  • Monday, Oct. 23, 5 p.m. – Le Samouraï
  • Monday, Nov. 13, 5 p.m. – Dans la maison

All films are shown for educational purposes only. These are closed screenings intended solely for U of A instructors and students. All films are shown in French with English subtitles.
