Constitution Day 2023 to Be Hosted in Giffels, Presented by Assistant Professor Alejandra Campos
The Political Science Department will host the annual Constitution Day lecture in Giffels Auditorium, from 3-5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, and assistant professor Alejandra Campos will give this year's lecture.
Campos' lecture, titled "Silent Evolution: The Unspoken Right to Vote in the Constitution," will cover the topic of language in the United States Constitution. More specifically, Campos will detail how vague or unclear language in the original document has presented barriers to access to, education about, and skirted the specifics of the right to, vote for marginalized groups. Campos' lecture will broadly discuss representation, election participation by the electorate and the impacts this access (or lack thereof) has on democracy as an institution.
Drinks and desserts will be provided, courtesy of Rick's Bakery of Fayetteville, outside of the auditorium.
Campos, a Diane D. Blair Fellow, gives the lecture in her inaugural semester with the U of A. A graduate of the program, Campos would go on to earn her Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame in 2023 and joined the department as an assistant professor of Latino studies shortly thereafter.
