Hoyt Purvis Award Nominations Due Oct. 15

The Graduate School and International Education is now accepting nominations for the annual Hoyt Purvis Award for Service in International Education to honor U of A faculty and staff who provide outstanding service or leadership to the field of international education. Strong applicants must also demonstrate a commitment to promoting the mission of mutual understanding between peoples of all nations within the U of A campus and the greater community.
Nominations are welcomed from any U of A student, staff or faculty member. More information regarding the Hoyt Purvis Award is available on the GSIE website, including the nomination form. The nomination deadline is at 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15.
One individual is celebrated in each of the following categories:
- University faculty member
- University staff member
- Graduate School and International Education staff member
Winners are selected by GSIE leadership, and recipients will be invited to a reception for international students and scholars hosted by the chancellor as part of International Education Week, Nov. 13-17.
Hoyt Purvis, an emeritus U of A Professor of Journalism and International Relations, passed away in May following a celebrated 34-year career that transformed international education at the university. He founded the university's International Studies Program and created the Fulbright Institute of International Relations. Purvis was the first recipient of the award when it was established in his honor in 2016.
