The DH Meet-Up: 'AI & Society' This Thursday
On Thursday, Oct. 12, the World Languages and Digital Humanities Studio will host the first DH Meet-Up for October from 4-5:30 p.m. in JBHT 207. This DH Meet-Up will focus on the topic of "Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Society" and it will feature a panel of U of A faculty who will discuss the multi-layered impact of AI on society, from the Hollywood strikes to the "death" of the college essay.
Panelists come from diverse academic backgrounds, such as philosophy, computer science and art. Some central thematic topics will include ChatGPT, AI's impact on different academic disciplines, the harmful and beneficial effects of AI and more.
The panel will be moderated by Curtis Maughan, director of the WLDH Studio, part of the Department of World Languages, Literatures and Cultures.
Panelists include:
- Lu Zhang, assistant professor of engineering
- Nadia Issa, teaching assistant professor of art
- J. L. A. Donohue, assistant professor of philosophy
The panel discussion will include ample time for a Q&A session. As with all DH Meet-Ups, the panel discussion is free and open to the U of A community. A dinner reception will follow the conclusion of the Q&A.
