Every year, more people die of kidney disease than breast cancer. Nearly 15% of U.S. adults have some form of chronic kidney disease. But new research at the U of A could change this. With support from the Kidney Research Corporation, two chemical engineering professors are partnering with UCLA nephrologist Ira Kurtz to develop an artificial kidney. If successful, their work will revolutionize treatment for kidney disease and offer hope for something better than dialysis or transplantation.

Discover RED is a new video series produced by University Relations and its Arkansas Research and Economic Development communications team that sheds light on the impactful research and economic development stories taking place at the U of A and how they are helping to build a better world. More of these stories will be shared throughout the year. You can find other news stories and podcasts by visiting arkansasresearch.uark.edu.
