Luan Ho

Behind every successful department is the dedicated IT team that ensures the smooth functioning of technical infrastructure. One such member of the Department of Industrial Engineering is Luan Ho. Ho's innovative solutions, exceptional work ethic and commitment to providing excellent customer service have made him a vital asset.

Ho's selection as Employee of the First Quarter was supported by numerous members of the department, including department head Chase Rainwater, associate professor Shengfan Zhang and professor Sandra Eksioglu, who is also associate dean for research.

Ho has consistently demonstrated his problem-solving ability by introducing innovative solutions that have significantly improved the efficiency and security of department assets. His creative thinking and proactive approach have helped industrial engineering stay at the forefront of technology. Ho's contributions go beyond just maintaining industrial engineering systems; he actively seeks opportunities to enhance them.

One example of his innovative approach is the recent transition of study spaces and conference rooms to feature high-tech equipment. This transition required not only technical expertise but also effective communication to guide faculty, staff and students through learning to use the new technology. Ho created a user-friendly how-to guide for each room. Not just a tech wizard, Ho is also an exemplary team player who embodies the college's commitment to collaboration and excellence.

His dedication to supporting his colleagues and the college community is exemplified by his proactive approach. He initiates assistance, often even before being asked. Ashley Reeves, industrial engineering operations manager, appreciates his dedication, saying, "Luan is a joy to work with. Whenever I need help, he is punctual and ready to tackle the issue. It is also common for Luan to pop into my office asking if I or anyone else needs his help, even before we ask for it! I am always appreciative of Luan's hard work and friendly attitude."

Rainwater said the entire tech team is valuable, and each member has unique strengths they bring to the team.

"Luan is detail-oriented and patient. I recently received a compliment from an emeritus professor of our department that Luan is extremely accommodating, kind and knowledgeable. He can also tackle difficult or confusing problems with calmness and positivity," he said. "Luan also took charge of an after-hours issue recently. A professor encountered a problem in one of our computer labs, and Luan had the vendor ready at 8 a.m. sharp the next day to tackle the issue. His prompt attention to the matter ensured that other classes would not encounter the same issue."

Each Employee of the Quarter receives a monetary award and certificate and will be considered for Employee of the Year.
