Celebrating Lunar New Year With Korean Food Day: A Culinary and Cultural Event

We are excited to announce that the Global Center for K-Food, in partnership with the U of A Sensory Science Center, under the U of A System Division of Agriculture, is excited to celebrate the Lunar New Year with a special event titled "Korean Food Day."

Please find the details of the event below:

1. Date: Friday, Feb. 9

2. Time: We are offering three sessions for your convenience: 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m. Each session lasts approximately 40 minutes.

3. Attendance Limit: Space is limited to 34 guests per session, available on a first-come, first-served basis (RSVP is needed).

4. This event is open to the public.

5. Venue: This event will be held in the hallway next to the Sensory Science Center, within the Food Science Department Building, located at 2650 N. Young Ave., Fayetteville, AR 72704. Complimentary parking will be available.

6. Event Highlights:

  • Cultural Introduction: Learn about Korean traditions associated with the Lunar New Year.
  • Culinary Experience: Enjoy Tteokguk, a traditional Korean dish featuring thinly sliced rice cake in a savory meat broth.
  • Musical Celebration: Join in the communal enjoyment of a Korean song celebrating the Lunar New Year.
  • Snacks and Beverages: Korean snacks, coffee and ramen will be available for attendees.

7. About the Food:

  • Tteokguk is a Korean dish traditionally enjoyed during Lunar New Year. 
  • It features thinly sliced rice cakes in a flavorful meat broth, often beef, and it is garnished with julienned cooked eggs, tender marinated meat, green onions and finely shredded dried seaweed.
  • Note: In consideration of safety, we invite only those without food allergies to participate in the food tasting.
