Justin Mazzanti has been named employee of the second quarter by the U of A Global Campus.

Mazzanti, a building specialist on the technology services team at Global Campus, received the award for his diligent efforts to both prevent disruptions and address all facility-related issues within the Global Campus building and surrounding university property.

"I really appreciate everyone who nominated me as well as everyone who was nominated," Mazzanti said. "I look at my job like being a roadie for an awesome band. You guys are the rock stars, and I just try to keep y'all jamming."

As building manager, Mazzanti oversees all repairs, upgrades and routine maintenance to the facility, which includes immediately attending to issues that arise outside of regular office hours. His work primarily involves communicating building issues between FAMA and other contractors so that times of heavy construction have the least impact on the building's occupants. He oversees the inventory process and implements building safety processes such as new employee onboarding with the ID Card Reader system. Mazzanti recently oversaw door upgrades that provide staff and visitors with improved, ADA-compliant access to facilities.

"Justin is a true team player, regardless of the type of task that is thrown at him," Mazzanti's co-workers said in their nominations. "He is always prompt and helpful, regardless of the scale or apparent importance of the request."

Glen Dunn, manager of technology services for Global Campus, serves as Mazzanti's immediate supervisor.

"Having someone like Justin taking care of our facility, coordinating with FAMA and contractors, is key for all GC staff to have a great place to work," Dunn said. "I am honored to have him on my team."

Cheryl Murphy, vice provost for distance education and head of the Global Campus, recognized Mazzanti as the employee of the quarter at a January staff meeting.

"Justin does a tremendous job," Murphy said. "He is an amazing team member and colleague all year round, but this quarter he's been a superhero."

Mazzanti started working at the U of A in Campus Mail/PMC Solutions in 2015, then moved to property accounting in the Administration Building in 2019. He joined Global Campus in May 2022.

The Global Campus awards the employee of the quarter to recognize outstanding achievements and accomplishments that relate to the unit's goals and the U of A mission. The award recipient receives a commemorative certificate and a monetary award. The four quarterly awardees may then be eligible to become the Global Campus Employee of the Year.

Other second quarter nominees include:

  • Caroline Chandler, web/graphic designer, Marketing and Communications
  • Amalie Holland, instructional designer, Instructional Design and Support Services
  • Adam Jones, Blackboard support specialist, Learning Technology Support
  • Camie Wood, instructional designer, Instructional Design and Support Services

The Global Campus supports the U of A academic colleges and schools in the development and delivery of online degree programs and courses, self-paced online courses and workforce development programs. This unit provides instructional design services, learning technology support, media production services and assistance with financial administration, recruitment and marketing.

The Global Campus also supports the W.E. Manning Memorial Scholarship, which is open to undergraduate and graduate students studying in online degree programs.
