Celebrate Archeology Day

Join the Archeological Survey, Archeological Society and the U of A Museum for a fun, family friendly day of hands-on archeology booths.

The Arkansas Archeological Survey, Arkansas Archeological Society and the U of A Museum are hosting Celebrate Archeology Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 23.

This is an all ages, family friendly event with a variety of hands-on booths covering various topics in archeology. These include pottery (with pinch pot making), animal bones, tools and weapons (with atlatl spear throwing, if weather permits), Civil War artifacts, 3D printing and scanning technologies, and a look at some of the Archeological Survey's geophysical equipment and tools. There will also be an Artifact ID table for people to learn from a local archeologist about artifacts that they may have in their house.

The U of A Museum will be open for tours throughout the event, with volunteers stationed around the museum to talk about a sample of the interesting objects in the museum's collection.

This event is being hosted in honor of Arkansas Archeology Month, which occurs each year in March. The month celebrates the long archeological history of Arkansas through events, presentations, tours and all kinds of other events throughout the state all month long.
