The U of A Community Music School announces its upcoming summer camps, catering to both day and overnight campers, from June 11 to 15. Led by professors, these camps offer an immersive musical experience for young enthusiasts.

Girls+ Compose Camp: Empowering Tomorrow's Composers As an extension of the SHE Festival of Women in Music, the Girls+ Compose Camp is tailored for high school students identifying as female or non-binary. Thanks to a generous grant from the Women's Giving Circle, this camp aims to equip aspiring composers with essential tools for success. Participants will delve into traditional music composition, fostering collaboration and innovation in a supportive environment. The curriculum covers music notation and digital composition, fundamental techniques, orchestration and insightful analyses of musical works. The camp culminates in a concert where students witness their creations brought to life.

AR Double Reed Camp: A Unique Learning Experience The Arkansas Double Reed Camp offers a one-of-a-kind learning experience for young musicians. Led by professors Dr. Theresa Delaplain and Dr. Rachel Frederiksen, students engage in daily classes covering repertoire, sight-reading, skills development, reed-making and chamber music. The camp concludes with a final performance featuring campers and instructors.

Marimba Camp: Intensive Instruction for Percussionists The U of A Summer Marimba Camp provides intensive instruction for percussionists, particularly focusing on four-mallet marimba technique. Suitable for beginners and experienced players alike, the camp includes group classes, small ensemble work and individual instruction. Topics covered range from mallet technique and warm-up routines to effective chamber group participation and mallet making.

Registration is now open for these transformative musical experiences. Join us for a remarkable journey where music meets innovation, expression and empowerment. Register today to secure your spot at the U of A Community Music School's summer camps.
