ABA Law Students Host Corporate Law and Diversity Meeting with Speakers from Tyson, Wal-Mart and UALR

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The University of Arkansas School of Law and the American Bar Association Law Student Division will host the American Bar Association’s “Corporate Law and Diversity” on Saturday, Feb. 11, at the School of Law courtroom, with speakers from Tyson Foods Inc., Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock’s William H. Bowen School of Law.

The speakers will begin at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. respectively. The event is free for ABA members and registration is online at: http://www.abanet.org/lsd/10thcircuit/06spring/info/reg-form.html.

Bryan W. Riley of Tyson Foods Inc. will kick off the event at 11 a.m. with a discussion on corporate law. Riley is currently senior counsel of team member services at Tyson. He earned his Juris Doctor at the UALR William H. Bowen School of Law, finishing first in his class.

Gordon Y. Allison of Wal-Mart Stores will discuss corporate law at 2 p.m. Allison joined Wal-Mart in November of 2003 as associate general counsel and is responsible for the legalities of worldwide mergers and acquisitions. Allison received his master’s degree in securities regulation and taxation from Georgetown University Law Center, his Juris Doctor from the University of Arkansas School of Law and his Master of Business Administration from the Sam M. Walton College of Business.

Adjoa A. Aiyetoro from UALR William H. Bowen School of Law will speak at 3 p.m. about diversity. Aiyetoro is an assistant professor of law at UALR and also serves as the co-chair of the Reparations Coordinating Committee.

Students and community members may come drink coffee from 9:15 to 10 a.m. and talk one-on-one with practicing lawyers, including Derek Scott from the Wal-Mart legal department and Jack Butt from Davis, Wright, Clark, Butt & Carithers PLC Attorneys at Law in Fayetteville.
