Assistant Director Of Corporate And Foundation Relations Appointed At University Of Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Alan B. Altom of Fayetteville, Ark., has been appointed to be assistant director of corporate and foundation relations at the University of Arkansas, effective May 12, 2003.

Altom is a graduate of the University of Arkansas with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He was previously a pricing administrator for J.B. Hunt Transport Inc. He has more than a decade of experience and service in the U.S. Marine Corps as a captain, company commander, a lieutenant, platoon commander and an infantry lance corporal.

Dan Hendrix, the director of corporate and foundation relations, said, "Alan brings proven leadership, interpersonal and organizational skills from a corporate and military background which will be beneficial in expanding our corporate and foundation partnerships with the University."

The primary responsibility of the assistant director for corporate and foundation relations is to secure private gift support, to foster existing and build new relationships with corporations and foundations and to plan and implement the unit’s fund-raising priorities and institutional advancement activities. This position reports to Hendrix.

"I am extremely pleased that Alan will be joining the development staff," said Sandra K. Edwards, associate vice chancellor for university development. "He brings a wide range of public service skills and experience working for a successful corporation to the University of Arkansas. A critical mission of the Campaign for the Twenty-First Century is to attract significant levels of private gift support. Much of our success can be attributed to the generosity of corporations and foundations. Alan brings the support we need to further the fine efforts of the development staff."

Altom said, "I’m happy to be joining the University of Arkansas development team. There’s so much potential to expand the support base for the University’s academic programs through corporate and foundation support and I’m looking forward to assisting the efforts already under way in this important area."
