Black Alumni Society Plans 'A Triumphant Return' to 'The Hill'

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Expected to be the largest reunion held to date on the University of Arkansas campus, the 7th Black Alumni Society Reunion, “A Triumphant Return,” will take place April 28 to May 1.

“We are expecting more than 750 alumni to make a 'Triumphant Return’ to campus,” said Angela Mosley Monts, assistant director for constituent societies at the Arkansas Alumni Association and Black Alumni Society coordinator. “Our theme signifies alumni returning to campus with pride and accomplishment. Current students will be provided a great example of how education and motivation can make the difference, so they can start planning their own triumphant return to 'The Hill’,” stated Monts.

Event sponsorships and net proceeds from the five-day reunion will benefit the Black Alumni Society Scholarship Endowment, which currently provides scholarships to four African-American students. “The goal is to increase the number of student beneficiaries to 15,” said Monts.

Reunion activities will include a BAS Scholarship Golf Tournament in Rogers, sponsored by Wal-Mart Stores Inc.; the Nola Holt Royster and Jennifer Hopkins Career Day; a welcome reception; picnic; Greek step show; child and youth activities; awards banquet; and the “Triumphant Return Gospel Celebration,” featuring Vickie Winans and other gospel artists.

“The Black Alumni Society, as it relates to our reunion weekend, has a reputation of partying with the purpose of promoting scholarship,” said Lott Rolfe, chair of the 2005 Black Alumni Society Reunion. “These events will not only provide a good time, but will give people the opportunity to be difference-makers in the lives of future students.”
