BUMPERS COLLEGES APPOINTS NEW DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Mark Power, formerly of Little Rock and now of Fayetteville, has been appointed as the director of development for the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences, effective April 30.
The director of development for the Bumpers College will help to plan and work to implement the College’s fund-raising priorities and institutional advancement activities. Power reports to the Interim Dean of Bumpers College Gregory J. Weidemann and to Clay Edwards, assistant vice chancellor for development. Power is considered part of an overall university advancement program and the College’s administrative council. His primary responsibility is to secure private gift support and to foster the development of alumni private support for the College. He will work closely with the College’s public relations unit and the alumni coordinator.
Power comes to the University from the American Cancer Society, at the Little Rock and Fayetteville locations, where he oversaw the regional fund-raising program. He has prior experience working in higher education and held a senior assistant director of admission position at Lyon College in Batesville. He is a 1994 graduate of University of Texas at Arlington with a degree in history.
Edwards said, "Mark will hold a new position for us in the Bumpers College, adding greatly to the already strong program we have in the Division of Agriculture, the other major partner in the Bumpers College. Mark will provide excellent leadership in developing alumni, corporate and foundation support for the educational mission of the college. His extensive community experiences will be important in the establishment of relationships which will benefit the students, faculty and staff of the college as they pursue their mission of teaching and service for the citizens of Arkansas and our region."
Weidemann said, "We are excited to have Mark join our college as its first full time development person. The college has always had excellent support from its alumni and stakeholders. We are convinced that Mark has the experience and energy needed to communicate the excitement we have in our programs to those that can help us support the continued growth of our college."
In fiscal year 1999-2000 Bumpers College received $449,559 in private gift support.
Power and his wife, Corinne, have a daughter, Emily.
