Campaign for the Twenty-First Century Celebration Activities
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The University of Arkansas will celebrate the conclusion of the successful Campaign for the Twenty-First Century on Oct. 27-28 on the UA campus. The following summarizes the events. All students, faculty, staff, the public and media are invited to attend.
o 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27 - Old Main Clock Dedication. Old Main’s original plans called for a clock to be installed in the building’s south tower. It is finally being installed, 130 years later, to commemorate the Campaign for the Twenty-First Century. Dedication will take place on the southeast corner outside Old Main, beneath the south tower. (Rain location: Fourth floor hallway, Old Main.) A shuttle will run between the "pit" parking lot at Reynolds Razorback Stadium and Old Main. The campus gates in Old Main’s circular driveway will be open for media trucks. A mult-box will be available for broadcast media.
o 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28 - Campaign Convocation — Outdoor plaza between Mullins Library and Arkansas Union. This historic event will highlight the campaign’s achievements and impact on the University of Arkansas. Hundreds of donors and faculty will be a part of a regal processional. Keynote speaker is Gov. Mike Huckabee. A picnic lunch will be served immediately following. (Rain location: Alltel Ballroom, Arkansas Union.) A broadcast media platform and mult-box will be available.
o 2:30 p.m. Friday Oct. 28 - New South Consortium — Alltel Ballroom, Arkansas Union. This is the second day of a two-day assembly of scholars from across the South. (On Oct. 27, a conference for registrants will involve scholars discussing their research with an eye toward submitting contributions to an edited volume of scholarly works to be published at a later date.) On Oct. 28, former U.S. Sen. David Pryor, dean of the Clinton School of Public Service, will moderate a panel discussion among the scholars who will discuss women and minorities and other topical issues related to the South. A specially commissioned short film will be shown. Hosted by the Diane Blair Center for Southern Politics and Society in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences and the new department of education reform in the College of Education and Health Professions. The symposium represents a collaborative, interdisciplinary effort between two units that have benefited from the Campaign for the Twenty-First Century.
