Engineering Honor Society Named Best Chapter In Country

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The University of Arkansas chapter of Alpha Pi Mu, the industrial engineering honor society, has been named the best in the country by the national organization. Selection is based on the chapter membership’s scholarship, leadership, community work and ethics.

The local chapter has developed a number of programs designed to assist young aspiring engineers gain the knowledge and experience necessary for successful careers. Members have been involved in civic activities including building playground equipment for the Central United Methodist Day Care facility, raising money for Nicaragua following the devastation of Hurricane Mitch, and participating in the Carlson Terrace trick-or-treat carnival for children of students living on the UA campus. The group has also sponsored several development seminars for engineering students. The 30 members raised money for the activities by hosting program sales for the UA home football games.

The UA group was named the national outstanding chapter for 1997 and took second place nationally in 1998. The Alpha Pi Mu organization has 72 chapters located across the country.
