FedEx Freight Funds Logistics Scholarships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — FedEx Freight of Harrison, Ark., has provided six scholarships to students in the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas through the Supply Chain Management Research Center.

“The Walton College has goals of increasing student diversity and student retention; these awards will go a long way to help meet these goals,” said Jim Crowell, managing director of the center. “In addition, they will help us increase the transportation and logistics student enrollment.”

Two of the scholarships were awarded to two students who belong to groups that are underrepresented on campus. Summer Johnson, a junior, received $2,000, and Ashleigh Toatley, a sophomore, received $1,000.

The other four scholarships were awarded based on the results of a term-paper logistics competition. These scholarships are designated to encourage students to research areas impacting the transportation industry and less-than-truckload carriers and were awarded to four students. Heather Townsend, Stephanie Bond, Brandon Chandler, and Tyrel Henry each received $500 scholarships. The students wrote papers on RFID (radio frequency identification) and the trucking industry.

The Supply Chain Management Research Center is a direct link between the private sector and the University of Arkansas supply chain resources. It sponsors activities that promote both the academic and general body of knowledge encompassing supply chain management.
