Flora Conference To Announce The Arkansas Vascular Flora Project

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The University of Arkansas will host the Arkansas Vascular Flora Conference at the Division of Continuing Education at 9 a.m. this Friday, May 19th. Organized by the Arkansas Vascular Flora Committee, the conference will feature speakers from four states who will discuss a variety of topics related to Arkansas’s flora.A Registration fee of $10.00 for general public and $5.00 for students is required of those wishing to attend.

The conference will provide the venue for a formal announcement of the Arkansas Vascular Flora Project. The project is a cooperative effort among botanists, both of Arkansas and from other states, to produce a comprehensive Flora of the state’s vascular plants. Dr. Johnnie Gentry, Curator of the University of Arkansas Herbarium is coordinator of this project.

Sponsors of this conference include the Arkansas Academy of Science, Arkansas Native Plant Society, Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission, FTN Associates, The Nature Conservancy and the University of Arkansas Herbarium.

The committee consists of representatives from the following institutions: Arkansas State University, Arkansas Tech University, Harding University, Henderson State University, Hendrix College, University of Central Arkansas, University of Arkansas, University of Arkansas at Little Rock, University of Arkansas at Monticello, University of Louisiana at Monroe, the U.S. Forest Service, and FTN Associates -- a private environmental consulting firm.
