FORMER RAZORBACK BALL PLAYER NAMED ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT FOR CENTRAL PROGRAMS

Central programs include general scholarships and scholarship programs, the Graduate School and the University Press. Brewer will also support the efforts to expand contact with alumni and friends of the university in Central Arkansas, North Arkansas and North Texas.    Brewer reports to Harley Lewis, Director of Development for Central Programs.

Assistant Vice Chancellor Clay Edwards said, "Ron Brewer is a great addition to our team. He is known to many alumni and friends in Arkansas, and around the country, and we feel that his experience will be an asset to us as we strengthen our efforts to benefit central programs.  Ron brings a sensitivity and awareness to our alumni which will truly benefit our efforts."

Brewer earned his bachelor’s of science and education from the UA College of Education and Health Professions. He has worked extensively as a mentor, coaching and coordinating outreach and sports efforts for area youth. He was a professional basketball player for the Portland Trailblazers, San Antonio Spurs, Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers and was named NBA Player of the Month and to the All-Rookie Team in 1978. He is a member of the University of Arkansas Hall of Honor and the Arkansas Hall of Fame. Prior to joining the University, Mr. Brewer served as a member of the staff of the West Campus of the Fayetteville School District. He served on the Arkansas Commission on National and Community Service and is a member of the Men of God at St. James Baptist Church. He was previously a sport camps coordinator where he implemented a variety of charity events.

Brewer said, "I am excited about returning to the University of Arkansas to assist in strengthening our development program. Already, I’ve seen the impact that our alumni and friends have in supporting the University and I am looking forward to building upon these existing relationships."
