Former UA Chancellor Dan Ferritor Joins UA System Office

Dan Ferritor, former chancellor at the University of Arkansas, has been named vice president for Academic Affairs for the University of Arkansas System, effective July 1.

“As you know, Dan has served as the chancellor, vice chancellor for academic affairs, chair of the department of sociology and faculty member of sociology at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, over the past 32 years,” said B. Alan Sugg, president of the UA system. “His experience and background as a university faculty member and administrator will be invaluable to all of our campuses as we plan for the future. I am grateful that Dan is delaying his retirement in order to accept this important responsibility.”

Having led the university through more than a decade as chancellor from 1986 to 1997, Ferritor’s successful tenure laid the firm foundation for the university's continued progress in the 21st century.

After serving 11 years as chancellor, Ferritor returned to the department of sociology to teach in fall 1998. As a testament to his commitment to education, Ferritor was awarded the University of Arkansas Alumni Association's Faculty Achievement Award for Teaching and Research in 1984. As an expression of the university's esteem, Ferritor was awarded the Chancellor's Medal in 2000.
