FULBRIGHT COLLEGE ASSOCIATE DEANS NAMED TO SERVE WITH INTERIM DEAN RANDALL WOODS

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Randall Woods, recently named as interim dean of the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas, has announced the two associate deans who will serve with him.

John G. Hehr and Charles H. Adams will begin serving as associate deans when Woods assumes the position as interim dean of the college, effective July 1, 1999.

Hehr, who served as associate dean for faculty development, research and facilities under Dean Bernard Madison, agreed to continue in this capacity at the urging of Woods.

"I asked John to continue as my associate dean because of his experience and effectiveness in the position," Woods said. "John is one of the most effective and trusted individuals I know. He has a great personality, he knows the job and is a great problem solver. His experience will provide continuity in this time of transition."

Adams will serve as the associate dean for instruction, and international programs. He is currently the chair of the Department of English and has been with the University of Arkansas since 1986.

"As the chair in the English department, Dr. Adams has overseen one of the largest programs in the college in terms of faculty, research and service," Woods said. "It is this experience that I wanted to tap. He’s very well liked, respected and has contributed greatly to the University through service on many important committees."

Hehr has been with the University since 1977 and is a professor in the geography department. He was named chair of the Department of Geography in 1978 and served in that position until 1987. He also has served as State Climatologist for Arkansas since 1979. Hehr was first appointed as associate dean of the college in 1988. He was interim dean of the college for one year in 1989.

Adams first came to the University as an assistant professor in the Department of English in 1986. From 1988 until 1989 he was the Fulbright Professor of American Studies for the University of Arkansas and Bonn University, Federal Republic of Germany. He is currently an associate professor in the Department of English as well as the department’s chair.
