Fulbright Pianist to Perform at Halftime Show

What: Special halftime show showcasing accomplished faculty and students of the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences.

When: Razorback basketball game at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, in Bud Walton Arena.

Who: The halftime show will feature virtuoso pianist Jura Margulis performing a special rendition of “The Stars and Stripes Forever” on a grand piano in center court. The piece is so difficult that only a small number of pianists in the world are capable of performing it today. After his performance, the announcer will also present four other talented faculty and students of Fulbright College:

Professor Gregory Salamo of the Fulbright College department of physics serves as the Joe N. Basore Professor in Nanotechnology, responsible for advancing research in microelectronics-photonics, particularly in nanotechnology. Since 2000, Salamo has won more than $15 million in grants for both research and education.

Jean Jones graduated with honors from Northside High School in Fort Smith, Ark., with a 4.24 grade point average and a score of 31 on the ACT. A Sturgis Fellow in Fulbright College, Jean was the top scholarship winner at Northside, being named a finalist for eight prestigious scholarships.

Professor Ingrid Fritsch in the Fulbright College department of chemistry and biochemistry has received grants from the National Science Foundation and the Environmental Protection Agency for her research. She has served on the board of directors of the Society of Electroanalytical Chemistry and on the executive committee of the Electrochemical Society. She has developed “labs-on-a-chip,” which holds the promise of revolutionizing sample preparation, chemical analysis, and chemical synthesis.

Alexander Hunt plans to graduate next May with two degrees: a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and European Studies and a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance and music theory. He is a Four-Year Honors student who is fluent in French, Italian, and Russian, and who is also proficient in Spanish and German.
