Gender Literacy: A Missing Piece In The Prevention Of Eating Disorders
FAYETTEVILLE - As a prelude to Eating Disorders Awareness Week, Feb. 23 through March 1, the University Health Center, Psychologists of Northwest Arkansas, Alpha Delta Pi sorority and American Association of University Women will be sponsoring a free event to discuss gender literacy and the prevention of eating disorders.
Visiting lecturers Mary S. Pabst, M.S.W., and Brenda A. Stigall, Ph D., will examine:
The relationship between gender inequity in education
Gender identity development
Gender’s role in disordered eating attitudes and behaviors
The event is free, open to the public and will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the Arkansas Union theater Wednesday, February 19th. Refreshments will be served at 5 p.m. in the Multicultural Center and the Real Women Project statues (10-inch bronze nudes of women depicting varying
shapes and sizes and promoting a healthy body image) will be present, too. Parking is available in the parking deck south of the Union and on the corner of Garland and Maple.
