UATV Celebrates Turns 15, Moves to New Channel

UATV, the cable television station operated by University of Arkansas students, will begin broadcasting on Cox Communications Channel 214 in northwest Arkansas, and on Channel 22 on the University of Arkansas campus beginning Thursday, Dec. 9. UATV’s programming reach for these new channels will exceed 100,000 households.

Dec. 9 is also the 15th anniversary of the first live program that originated from the Kimpel Hall Studio. UATV is hosting an open house from noon to 2 p.m. on that day to celebrate the anniversary and the launching of Channel 214. The public is welcome to attend. UATV went on the air during the fall semester of 1996, on the Fayetteville cable system only. Later, the student-managed TV station was added to the Springdale cable system, and a few years ago, the UATV signal was expanded to reach into much of northwest Arkansas. However, the station shared programming time with Fayetteville, Springdale and Rogers Schools.

The new UATV will be a 24-hour a day, year around station, with student-produced news, sports, public affairs programs and documentaries originating from studios on the first floor of Kimpel Hall. The station will also continue streaming its signal to the world at http://uatvonline.net.
